Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the appearance (though not necessarily the function) of a person’s teeth, gums and/or bite. Many dentists refer to themselves as “cosmetic dentists” regardless of their specific education, specialty, training, and experience in this field.

Porcelain Veneers
Conceal Imperfections and Feel Confident in Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers have revolutionized dentistry as we know it today. Advancements in the ceramic materials used to make the veneers and the bonding agents that help hold veneers on the teeth have led to enhanced esthetics as well as more conservative dentistry. Veneers are ultra-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front of teeth. Because of the minimal amount of tooth preparation that is needed, less anesthesia is often required. Veneers are used to brighten people’s smiles, to mask discolored teeth, straighten mis-aligned teeth and to improve someone’s smile design. Highly resistant to staining from coffee, tea, and even cigarette smoking, ultra-thin porcelain veneers can achieve a tenacious bond to the tooth, resulting in a natrualness that is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

Because of the conservative preparation needed and the strength of the porcelain bond, veneers have been shown to last for many years if they are done correctly. After veneers are placed, they are maintained much like natural teeth. There is typically an adjustment period of one to two weeks while the patient gets used to the different size and shape of their teeth. After this period, most patients feel like their veneers are natural teeth.

Veneers usually take three to four visits to the dental office. The first step is a consult and treatment planning appointment. At this appointment the patient can explain what they really want to achieve with veneers. We will take our time to make sure that the patient understands what is involved and what difficulties might be encountered during the treatment based on their teeth. Difficult cases might need two appointments for treatment planning so that we can take the proper records needed to ensure we can deliver the result the patient is expecting.

The next appointment is the preparation appointment. Usually a varying amount of anesthetic is used and the teeth are prepared. Impressions are then taken and the patient is given beautiful, natural looking temporary crowns. On most patients, there is an immediate improvement in their smile upon placement of temporaries. Dentistry has come a long way on temporization of crowns and veneers, and patients can feel comfortable that they will be satisfied with the esthetics of their temporaries.

At the final appointment, the patient is anesthetized again and the temporaries are removed. The teeth are then cleaned and the final restorations are bonded into place. We usually like to get the patient back one week later for any adjustments to the bite and final removal of any excess cement material that may have been left along the margins of the crowns. We also like to take post-op pictures of the patient at this time.

Dental Bonding

During a dental bonding procedure, the doctor will apply a special resin to the surface of teeth, filling in small cracks and hiding stains. Our experienced staff will select a shade of composite that will blend with your natural smile. This treatment can be a more affordable alternative to veneers. We can help you decide which treatment will best meet your goals.

Bioliner™ Plus

We offer Bioliner™ Plus, a discreet and convenient way to correct tooth rotation or spacing issues using a set of clear silicone trays. These custom-made aligners apply gentle pressure to help straighten teeth and improve the appearance and function of your smile. Since the aligners are removable, you will not face any diet restrictions. Additionally, Bioliners™ are transparent, so they are virtually invisible to others.

Laser Gum Contouring

When gums extend too far down the teeth, it can create what is known as a “gummy smile.” At Friddle Dentistry, we offer laser gum contouring to remove excess gum tissue and improve an uneven gum line. During a gum contouring procedure, your dentist will use a specialized laser to create a beautiful new frame for your smile. Thanks to this advanced technology, you will experience minimal discomfort and very little post-treatment sensitivity.

Teeth Whitening

Tooth discoloration can significantly affect your appearance and confidence. Drs. Carl Friddle and Peyton Aven offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening to help brighten their patients’ smiles. During an in-office Zoom!® whitening, we apply a professional-strength peroxide whitening gel and use a special light to activate it. When you choose at-home whitening, we will provide a milder gel and custom-made whitening trays, so you can brighten your smile on your own schedule.

Professional Teeth Whitening to Brighten Your Smile

Tooth discoloration can significantly detract from the appearance of a smile. We provide both in-office Zoom!® teeth whitening and take-home whitening kits at our Fort Smith, AR-area practice to meet your schedule and budget. During a personal consultation, Drs. Carl Friddle and Peyton Aven will take careful note of your goals and analyze your smile to determine a treatment plan that can give you the bright white smile you desire. In-office Zoom!® Whitening

Zoom!® is one of the most popular professional teeth whitening treatments available. With an in-office Zoom!® whitening, we can brighten your smile dramatically in less than one hour. In-office whitening is ideal for patients who want more dramatic and immediate results.

During your treatment, the dentist or hygienist will coat your teeth with a peroxide whitening gel. Next, we will use a special light to activate the whitening ingredients. After about 15 minutes, your practitioner will remove the gel and apply a new layer, repeating the process two more times. After an in-office Zoom!® whitening, you can enjoy a smile that is several shades lighter.

At-home Whitening with DayWhite

When compared to in-office whitening, DayWhite at-home whitening allows patients to enjoy similar results achieved at their own personal convenience. With DayWhite treatment, Dr. Carl Friddle or Dr. Peyton Aven will provide whitening gel and a set of trays that have been fitted to your teeth. Patients will apply the gel along the inside of the trays and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes each day for roughly two weeks. The peroxide gel contains ingredients similar to Zoom!® whitening, but it has a milder concentration to help patients avoid irritation or sensitivity. Additionally, the carefully crafted trays will keep the gel from coming in contact with your gums. DayWhite whitening is also typically more affordable than in-office whitening, so it may be ideal for patients on a budget.

How to Maintain Your Sparkling Smile

Professional teeth whitenings can achieve beautiful results, but they are not permanent. To retain the brightness of your smile, you should follow a few general guidelines. Maintaining good oral health through proper brushing, flossing, and routine dental cleanings will not only improve the natural defenses of your teeth against decay and discoloration, but also help you avoid future staining. Additionally, patients should avoid foods and drinks like red wine, tomato sauce, and fruit juice. When you do partake in these foods, rinse your mouth with some water if you are not able to brush immediately after. In many cases, we can perform touch-ups, typically every six months, to help you maintain your results. However, be sure to seek your dentist’s approval before performing any at-home touch ups, since over-whitening can be harmful.

A bright, sparkling smile can dramatically enhance your appearance. Whether you are seeking professional whitening during a single appointment, or the convenience of an at-home whitening kit, we can provide effective treatment to meet your needs. Dramatically Enhance Your Appearance with a Smile Makeover

A single cosmetic dentistry procedure can make a significant improvement in the appearance of a smile. By combining several procedures into a comprehensive smile makeover treatment, we can help patients in Fort Smith, AR, achieve more dramatic and stunning results. At Friddle Dentistry, Drs. Carl Friddle and Peyton Aven can design a customized smile makeover plan to meet your unique aesthetic goals and complement your best features. What Is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover combines two or more cosmetic procedures into a single treatment plan:

  • Porcelain veneers: These custom-made shells of dental-grade porcelain are placed on the front of teeth to conceal a range of cosmetic imperfections, and to achieve symmetry and beauty in your smile.
  • Dental bonding: A composite resin is artfully applied to the surface of a tooth to conceal imperfections and improve their appearance.
  • Teeth whitening: We offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening to help eliminate dental stains and brighten smiles.
  • Dental crowns: We can enhance a tooth with severe cosmetic flaws by completely covering it with a durable, customized restoration.
  • Gum contouring: Using an advanced dental laser, we can remove excess gum tissue to create a beautiful new frame for your smile.
Smile Makeover Candidates

A smile makeover is a completely customized treatment plan that is specifically tailored to meet an individual patient’s needs and goals. Your dentist will review your candidacy for a smile makeover during a personal consultation. With the help of advanced technology, the doctor will examine your teeth and jaw to understand your unique goals. In order to qualify for a makeover, patients must have good oral health, and they should be free of dental decay and gum disease. We can administer a restorative treatment, such as a crown or dental implants, to improve your candidacy.

Planning Your Makeover

We take great care when planning a smile makeover. During a free consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your cosmetic goals.  Many patients also find it helpful to review before-and-after photos of others who have undergone a smile makeover. After evaluating your candidacy, you will return to our office to plan the details of your makeover. To help with planning, your dentist will take digital x-rays to examine the health of individual teeth and check for misalignment. Your dentist will also analyze your smile line, or the curvature of your top lip when you smile, which should match the curvature of your top anterior teeth. Once you and your dentist have determined a treatment plan, we create a wax-up to give you a preview of the results.

Drs. Carl Friddle and Peyton Aven are committed to providing comfortable and compassionate dental care to every patient. A smile makeover can greatly enhance the appearance of your smile and boost your confidence. To begin planning your smile makeover, schedule a consultation at Friddle Dentistry today.
