Michael came to our office only wanting straighter teeth.  After proper records were taken, we realized we could straighten his teeth, but his biggest problem was that he had an extremely deep bite and an arch that was collapsing.  Straightening his teeth would have been a temporary fix to a deeper problem.  At this point in treatment we are expanding his arches using a nickel titanium palatal expander for us upper arch and a skeletal expander for his lower arch.  After his arch is expanded properly we will then begin to treat his deep bite with a removable appliance called a twin block.  The last thing will be to straighten his teeth using traditional brackets on his teeth.  This will finish in a position where his muscles are in a relaxed position upon closing, leading to long term stability and proper facial aesthetics from all sides.  He won't have that sucken in look that many patients have after orthodontic treatment.
